Higher education

Higher education

Higher education is a key sector for Kellerton with a strong background advising on data strategy and reporting and analytics solutions at UK universities. Good information on the current student body and new student recruitment remains a key factor in strategic financial planning for a constantly evolving market from a student choice, fees and international recruitment perspective.

Having worked with a number of the larger teaching institutions as well as some red bricks, Managing Partner Chris Kwouk says “With a high burden of external reporting that every University is geared up to produce, the gaps are often with the internal data, either getting practical “bums on seats” numbers to plan teaching resources or in truly combining data to enable income and capital planning to match market expectations, portfolio and resource planning.”

We’ve been working with a number of Universities including The University of Exeter, Northumbria University, The University of Greenwich, Bournemouth University and Plymouth University. Projects have included two full strategic reviews, a reporting portal, a technical review and dashboards on integrated data and visual planning tools at another. We also work with many other institutions who historically installed our HEIDI API adapter.

We can help with a number of key requirements in the sector including:

  • Data strategy and business intelligence review and road-map
  • Corporate, strategic, financial and student number planning. “What if” analysis and scenario modelling
  • Performance management: KPI definition, dashboards and reporting
  • Automation of external returns and operational reporting
  • Data warehouse and reporting solutions for student numbers, recruitment, finance and HR

Further education

Kellerton have recently done a whole IT strategy for a major UK apprenticeship provider and private training business, including a review of data strategy alongside a business systems review and system integration strategy. We are also providing a part time CIO.

Although a new sector for us, there are many paralells with Higher Education including a focus on data management and data governance to ensure accurate funding data at all times and a focus of analytics on withdrawals with opportunities for predictive AI to determine learner communications and influence outcomes.

Schools

Kellerton have recently conducted a review of data and analytics at a large UK multi academy trust including executive conversations around investment in the data platform and how to acheive value for money when funded on a per pupil basis.

Again, alongside complex KPIs and performance monitoring of the moving cohort, a modern data strategy and platform can focus more on outcomes through more detailed information capture and analysis of individual topic competence in year.
